Professional Maintenance Systems building

Professional Maintenance Systems was established in 1982, with the goal of professionalizing the janitorial industry. Our team has worked diligently to establish a significant presence in the San Diego market, and earn a reputation as a well-run company that provides stellar service to customers and offers excellent career opportunities.

Since Karen Berry became owner and CEO in 1996, we've experienced 300 percent growth. We attribute that to the fact that we pay close attention to detail, and we design cleaning systems appropriate for each client's unique needs. We also have the finest team of employees in our industry, something reflected by our extremely low turnover rate (lowest in San Diego for janitorial companies) and our low experience modification rating (lowest in the state), which reflects our strong focus on safety.

By maintaining a focus on providing janitorial services for corporate headquarters, we've developed a keen sense of what our clients need. We understand that we're often cleaning showcase facilities, so we must perform at a consistently high level to ensure that employees have a nice environment in which to work, an environment that makes a positive statement to visitors about the company's image.

Our Employees

Professional Management Systems is staffed by a dedicated team of employees who are committed to providing a high level of customer service. We actively manage all the buildings we clean; our managers are onsite at least twice a week, and they're encouraged to take ownership of each location to ensure total client satisfaction.

Management Team

Karen Berry, Owner and CEO

Karen Berry Karen is a Certified Public Accountant who began her career at Price Waterhouse and Deloitte Haskins and Sells after graduating from San Diego State University. When she began her own accounting practice, Professional Maintenance Systems was one of her first clients; she's provided monthly financial statements and tax returns since the company's inception. Karen joined us in 1996 on a full-time basis, and our growth has skyrocketed since then. She implemented a comprehensive job-costing program that has streamlined operations and enhanced our focus on safety, which has significantly reduced work-related injuries and brought down our experience modification rating (used to determine workers' compensation insurance rates) to the lowest in the state.

Hector Romero, Operations Manager
Hector joined Professional Maintenance Systems in 1983 as a janitor. He was promoted to Operations Manager as a result of his hard work and dedication. Hector has played a key role in our ability to attract and retain quality employees, to help facilitate our growth. He's also developed a floor care program that is second to none, training and managing our nine floor care crews. Hector, who is bilingual (English and Spanish), attended Southwestern College for two years.

Jason Erickson, Resource Manager

Jason Erickson Jason joined Professional Maintenance Systems in 1997 to provide office support by putting to work his extensive knowledge of computer systems and software. He created the current office network, installed and implemented an extensive accounting software program, and coordinated the company's website and e-mail system to facilitate efficient communication with clients. Jason has a degree in accounting from San Diego State University.
